Recycling and waste – what goes in each bin?

Blue recycling bin:

To get the most out of your recycling, you should use the space effectively. Flatten cardboard boxes and break down larger pieces of card into smaller pieces. You can also flatten plastic bottles and drinking cans.

Green rubbish bin:

Red food waste bin:

Each flat should have a small indoor food caddy. Empty the contents of your caddy into the red food waste bin which is outside next to the bike sheds.

Yes please:

Bread and pastries
Dairy products (e.g. cheese)
Fish (including bones and scales)
Fruit and vegetables (including fruit stones)
Meat and bones (cooked or uncooked)
Cooking oils and fats (e.g. vegetable oil, olive oil, coconut oil, butter, lard)
    Please collect (cooled) oils and fats in a plastic bottle and place inside your food caddy or red bin
    These can be solid or liquid form
Tea bags and coffee grounds
Cooked and raw food

No thanks:

Compostable cups and packaging (please use green rubbish bin)
Vegware packaging (please use green rubbish bin)
Glass
Non-food products
Packaging

Lining your food caddy is optional. You can line your caddy with any of the following:

Plastic carrier bags
Compostable bags
Supermarket carrier bags (including bags for life)
Pedal bin liners (not black bags)
Other plastic bags (e.g. bread bags and salad bags)
Newspaper

Don’t line your caddy with:

Black bags
Crisp packets
Cloth bags.
